My usual column would appear rather frivolous in light of what happened here in
Jakarta on Friday 17 July  and which the Jakarta Post aptly headlined as

I am certain all of my readers were as shocked as I was  by the terrible bombings
that took place at the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton Hotels last Friday. What a heinous
crime to commit against innocent people and to perpetrate such suffering upon so
many of our fellow human beings.

Our sincere condolences and heartfelt sorrow go out to the relatives and friends of
those victims who were killed in the bomb blasts and to all who were injured we send
our very best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I would ask my readers to stop for a minute and pray for those who died in these
tragic circumstances.

ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO THEM, O LORD
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM
MAY THEY REST IN PEACE
AMEN.

It is a great pity that just when the Indonesian image, both here and abroad, was
becoming positive that this setback has taken place. Now increased vigilance against
potential acts of terrorism must once again be a primary consideration in our normal
everyday lives, especially when going to places where large numbers of people
congregate. Take adequate care, please.
