What a wonderful night last Saturday at this event held at Murphy’s Bar. The earlier rugby result was forgotten the minute
Jakarta’s only resident piper, Shelley Gautama, belted out Scotland the Brave.
Her beautiful playing was followed up with some great song choices from the BWA choir which soon had the large crowd
singing along. Once the resident band started rocking, we got down to the serious business of the evening – over 25 folk
stepped up to try to see if they could identify 6 whiskies; two Irish and four Scotches. Some indeed took their task very
seriously examining colour and smell, as well as taste, to compare each with the tasting notes, thankfully provided by Alex.
Obviously it was a challenging task too much for some, as 7 entrants did not manage to identify any correctly!! But had
good fun trying!
JSAS was delighted to announce that our own former Chieftain, Scott Thomson, was, not only the winner, but the only
person to score a full 6 points, correctly identifying every one. Scott was glad to recover his honour in a field he feels he
excels after last year’s humiliation – he’s obviously been in training!
Thanks to all the committee, Derval (St Patrick’s President), Murphy’s Bar, Shelley and the BWA choir for making it a such a
great night.
